Stop Overthinking Today: Why Staying in the Moment Is the Fastest Path to Inner Freedom

Beloved ones,

For so many of us, the days go by with a sensitive heart carrying the weight of the mind’s constant motion, the soft reaching-back to the regrets of yesterday carried on the gentle breezes of memory or the projection of future uncertainties – it can feel like the motion never stops.

For each moment of every day the mind remembers the past, envisions a future, narrates stories to itself and talks incessantly. These stories, unless they are laser focused, rob us of our peace and add stress to our lives. But in the midst of all this activity and all this activity’s weights and worries, there exists a way—a gentle way, a sacred way: Stay in the Moment. (Don’t Think.)

This is our guideline #4 and it has been one the most liberating gifts in my life and in the lives of so many I have had the honor of working with. If we consciously ground ourselves in pure presence—in the soft rise and fall of breath, the cool feeling of the air touching our skin, the subtle pulsing of life flowing through our bodies—the constant chatter of our minds subsides.

Anxieties vanish like ocean mist before the morning sun. Worries created by ceaseless thinking disappear and our natural joyous energy naturally arises. Our health improves and our joy manifests from the inside out. Stress dissolves, as our lives are no longer juggle between movies our minds play of the past and the future while needing to keep our awareness anchored in the present moment, dealing with today.

In the space of now, something miraculous happens: union. Authentic yoga. The body, mind, and spirit connect with the infinite, which is always this way: silent, loving, and whole. You get a taste of the freedom that is already inside you. You recall who you really are.

A daily, gentle practice, anchored in the awareness of the moment is one of the best ways to release this inner peace.

It’s a beautiful process to watch unfold as people let go of the worries and stress of their lives and just sit in the present. Each day by the ocean and the sunrise transformation happens as we find our light, our peace and our connection to everything. I invite you to join me each morning. May the sunrise be your teacher.
